hondab16tuner replied: "The parts list UNINSTALLED will be in the $7000 range. Add another $2,000 for install and necessary tuning/unknowns. After all is said and done you can still only push 14psi on this motor due to no internal work on the block itself. You would be in the 300-320 whp range. Now add another $3,000-$5,000 for a complete rebuild and a larger turbo like a GT35R or GT40R and you can make the 500 whp mark."
formula93_350 replied: "Take it from me, I've had a 12 second eclipse (no idea how much horsepower, i'd guess in the high 300s), and 500 isn't just difficult to reach, it's kind of pointless. You're talking about a FWD eclipse. AWD, different story, but lets work with what you've got. I recommend the following set up, and you'll have one hell of a street machine that prices at just above 1000, I would know, this is the set up I used on my AWD 1990 to hit mid 12s which is definitely enough for a street car.
MODS:
Evo III (big) 16g turbo--600 @ slowbowracing.com
Full 3inch turbo back exhaust-- between 300-500
Boost controller- between 80-400 (depends if you go manual or electronic, it really doesn't matter). Set the boost controller to 15, don't go any higher for the set up im listing.
Any intake will work (get beaded pipes so you can avoid pipe blow out under full boost) --300
JDMsport FMIC--100-250 depending where you look
Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch, DO NOT GO ACT, you will ruin it!--450 @ slowboy racing
Remove AC/PS belt--free! (frees up some HP)
Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump--you can find one used for about 70
Screamer Tube (get this when you do the exhaust, it will eliminate boost creep)
That set up will put you in the low 13s, high twelves.
My set up included a Stage 4 slowboy racing head which was port and polished, came with Ferra Valves, Brian Crower Retainers and Valve Springs. Also, I removed my balance shafts which helps.
With all this, you'll want to look into Apexi's SAFC II unit. It's fairly easy to tune with and will help eliminate annoying fuel cut you'll experience at high RPMS with the 16g.
I'd also throw a pair of NITTO 555s on there to grip with, because with that set up, you won't be gripping until 3rd. I promise."
How much should i offer on a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX? there is a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX for sale near my area and they're asking $8500
it has 42,000 original miles, built 6 bolt with less then 6000 miles on it with 272/272 hks cams, 720 inj., 255 walboro pump, full 3" Buschur exhaust, Fully adj. coilovers and springs and Front mount. A pillar three gauge pod with Boost and vac, air/fuel, and Egt (not hooked up), Short throw, and front and back strut bars
and im thinking of getting it if its still available when i can get the money for it
and on kelly blue book says its worth bout $5,100
if you could help me and give me a good idea for how much to pay for it
thanks
tamalekingpin replied: "For what they are asking that sounds like a steal. KBB bases the prices on stock figures, and whats in the car is deff. not stock. You could try 8000 but that is the lowest I can imagine them going seeing as how modded the car is."
1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX boost creep and fuel cut? I have a small 16g turbo on my 1990 Eclipse GSX 5 Speed. It has a full turbo back exhaust and when I floor it, it seems to cut power at about 5500rpm. I assume this is fuel cut possibly from boost creep. Anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?
I posted this question before but I guess I should've mentioned what else is done to the car in case it's something else.
Car has:
--Removed balance shaft(s)? (not done by me)
--Small 16g Turbo (MHI)
--HKS MLS head gasket and ARP head studs
--All emission devices removed and tuned out
--Full 3in turbo back exhaust
--ACT 2100 clutch
--Walbro 255LPH fuel pump
--Ported head
--Ported intake manifold
--Tuned, but not sure what was done.(previous owner)
I'm still pretty sure its boost creep causing the fuel cut, I can watch it on my boost gauge.
Im.about.a.dollar!!fuck.50.cent replied: "i had a 92 gsx with almost the same mods and had the same problem.. i ran an hks vpc and it took care of the problem.. it took a good 5 hours of tuning ( no plessure of dyno, just street tuning)
another way which is probly the most efficient is to have your ecu reprogrammed ... the tune that the previous owner got obviously didnt take care of it.. there used to be a guy out here in so cal that would swap out your ecu with a programmed one for a small charge im not sure if hes still around... check old dsm forums"
mitsubishi eclipse GST? I am about to buy a 1997 gst with 120k on it, it is super clean and in awesome shape, with a few modifications, 14b turbo, 3in downpipe, exhaust and turbo intake manifold, hks blow off valve, B&m short throw shifter, and it has a 7 bolt motor in it, it hasnt gotten crankwalk so far, and runs really good and strong. what would the ups and downs of this be? do you think it would get crankwalk in the future? soon? does it sound like a good purchase? i dont want to get it and have it get crankwalk soon. lemme know of any suggestions and anything else.
thanks yall
gotrnet replied: "crankwalk is over blown. it does happen but not nearly as often as you believe it does. i am not going to say it won't or that it will. if the car has 120 on it then it prob nearing the end of its usable life unless you plan to rebuild it in the future (ie pistons rods bearings and bore job etc) good luck."
modelplus2000 replied: "As long as the engine has been overhauled recently, you should be ok. I bought a 98 GST, with 80k miles that was supposed to have been rebuilt, with less than 500 miles on engine. Well two weeks later the balance shafts locked up, witch broke the timing belt, screwed up the oil pump, messed up the head and valves. My husband and I totally rebuilt it (again, the right way), and we eliminated the balance shafts. All in all we have a faster car than we bought, because we ended up getting a bigger turbo, in all that mess we did quite a few upgrades. Never had a problem since, and we've had it for 3 years now."
Jase replied: "The longest my eclipse ran was 165,000 then crankwall went out
and a 14b turbo is smalll u should get piping front mounted intercooler n get a 16g u can pull more hp and ill b faster
i say wait till it goes out then get tje engine rebuilt by then ull have the money saved"
What will you need to turbocharge a 1997 mitsubishi eclipse gsx?? well the choicces are to buy a Garrett GT Ball Bearing Turbo that will increase the hp by 300, for 800 just the turbo.
or buy a kit, either a GReddy Turbo Kit or a HKS Sport Turbo Kit. will the kit come witth everything i need? or what else should i buy. i have $6000 saved up and will i have enough?
im also gonna get an Apexi N1 Exhaust System. do i need new headers or down pipes?
so i bassically want to know if i buy the turbo bye itself to replace my turbo engine will i need anything else for the big horsepower gain? or should i buy the kit if it comes with everything i need
Yeah We Got That replied: "I'd get the entire kit, with the engine being 10+yrs old, you will need to replace everything, turbo, pipes, intercooler etc... You also need to remember about tuning which has to be done at a shop and will run ya 500-1000 dollars too. If you just get the tubro you will prolly run into problems with the existing turbo parts."
DialM4Speed replied: "Or you could try this...
And don't ask the same question more than once!"
HKS turbo intake? does anybody have any good websites were i can purchase a fine hks turbo charged intake for a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse??
